KING KONG (1933)
Thursday 21 June, 12.00

KING KONG remains an unparalleled horror-fantasy whose gargantuan reputation is much deserved.
An expedition exploring a remote island captures a gigantic ape and brings him back to New York.
A beautiful actress who accompanies them provokes feelings of love in the mighty Kong, causing him to break free from his chains and bring terror to the streets.
The ending is amongst the most memorable in movie history, guaranteed to bring a tear to the eye.

THE LONELINESS OF THE LONG DISTANCE RUNNER (1962)
Thursday 19 July, 12.00

Colin (Courtenay) is a defiant teenager who rebels against the system, refusing to follow his dying father into a factory job, railing against the capitalist bosses and preferring to make a living from petty thieving. Sent to borstal, Colin discovers his talent for cross-country running.

42nd STREET (1933)
Thursday 16 August, 12.00

The classic film about staging a do-or-die Broadway musical.
Complete with an egomaniacal but hugely talented Producer, dazzlingly choreographed music-and-dance numbers and a last-minute leading lady replacement (an unknown of course), 42nd STREET remains an entertaining, frantically paced musical comedy.
With star turns from both Warner Baxter as Producer Julian Marsh and Ruby Keeler as the new star rising, Peggy Sawyer, 42nd STREET set the standard for excellence in filmmaking, a standard that still shines bright today.
